REDDENTES SPORTS, SINGAPORE POOLS AND MEDIACORP BRING SUPPORTERS CLOSER TO TEAM SINGAPORE PARA ATHLETES AT TOKYO 2020 PARALYMPICS

19 July 2021, Singapore – Singaporeans can look forward to ample opportunities to cheer on Team Singapore’s Para athletes competing in Tokyo this summer. With the strong support of Singapore Pools, Reddentes Sports has announced a broadcast deal with Mediacorp for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Reddentes Sports was appointed as the media rights partner for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games within Asia by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in 2019. With on-going travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deal will allow Singaporeans to follow the progress of our Para athletes via multiple platforms across Mediacorp from 24 August to 5 September 2021.

As Singapore’s Paralympic Network, Mediacorp will bring viewers the ‘live’ telecast of the Opening and Closing ceremonies, daily highlights and coverage of Team Singapore events, where available, for free on its digital entertainment service meWATCH and free-to-air TV station Mediacorp Channel 5. Highlights will also be available on the Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube channel, and audiences can keep up with the latest news updates across Mediacorp’s news bulletins, radio stations and digital news portals.

Fans may also look out for Team Singapore’s One Day campaign, launched in anticipation of the Olympics and Paralympics as Team Singapore athletes endeavour towards sporting success,  building upon their journeys of dedication and perseverance. Available on Team Singapore’s Facebook and Instagram, the One Day campaign video showcases Team Singapore’s determination to progress and mental strength in overcoming trials. #OneTeamSG #OneDaySG

Yip Ren Kai, Managing Director of Reddentes Sports said, “We are proud to be able to bring Singaporeans closer to the action at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and allow the community to get behind our Para athletes. It is important that they receive recognition and support on the global stage as they proudly represent our nation at the elite level,”

“Being a local boy and having competed previously at major games, this partnership is especially close to the heart knowing that family and friends of our Para athletes will be able to watch them compete and bring glory to our nation,” Mr Yip added.

On the road to Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Reddentes Sports, with the support of Singapore Pools, will also be producing a series of short films showcasing the journey of our Para athletes, their goals and aspirations for the upcoming Paralympic Games. This series will be broadcast on screens at *SCAPE, digitally on Sport Singapore’s social media platforms, as well as on Mediacorp’s platforms, from early August 2021. More details to be released soon.

Singapore Pools’ CEO Lam Chee Weng said, “As a long-term partner and supporter of sports, Singapore Pools is proud to be part of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics journey, cheering our Para athletes along, shining the spotlight on Team Singapore and rallying the community behind them.”

“The series of  short films will allow Singaporeans to better understand the motivations and obstacles that our Para athletes face, in addition to the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that Singaporeans will unite, and support One Team Singapore as they fly the flag proudly in Tokyo this summer,”  Mr Lam added.

Singapore National Paralympic Council Chairperson Associate Professor Teo-Koh Sock Miang said, “We are thankful for all the support that has been put forward by Reddentes Sports and Singapore Pools to showcase our Para athletes during the upcoming Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The live coverage will allow Singaporeans to witness their strength and grit while competing at the Games, and hopefully inspire the next generation of Para athletes.”

“It is also heartening to see more local companies coming forward to support our mission to use the power of sport to change our society’s perceptions of persons with disabilities, and to promote a more diverse and inclusive community in Singapore,” A/P Teo-Koh added.

Mediacorp Chief Customer & Corporate Development Officer Angeline Poh said, “As Singapore’s Paralympic Network, we are glad to do our part in rallying Singaporeans around our Para athletes. Mediacorp’s coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games is also aligned with our commitment to championing persons with disabilities and building an inclusive society, through the Mediacorp Enable Fund.”

“We hope our audiences will be inspired by the athletic achievements of our differently abled sports men and women, and will join us in cheering on our Team Singapore Para Athletes,” Ms Poh added.

Alexis Schaefer, the IPC’s Commercial, Partnerships & Broadcasting Director, said, “Singaporean Para athletes had their best ever Paralympics at Rio 2016 in terms of medal success and we are greatly excited to see that such performances have led to an increase in demand for the live coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

“We are delighted by the strong partnership forged between Singapore Pools and Reddentes Sports to create more opportunities for Singaporeans to watch the Games across a range of platforms, ensuring they can follow the likes of Singapore’s three-time Paralympic swimming champion Yip Pin Xiu in Tokyo.

We see a lot of potential in Southeast Asia to transform the lives of millions of persons with disabilities through Para sport and we are confident this increased coverage will help play a role in achieving this.”
